Mozilla has released the new version of Firefox internet browser for Windows. Firefox 4, which is still under testing, uses and better JavaScript engine and visual design. The new changes in Firefox make it one of the fastest browser on earth. However, the browser ships with a default configuration which doesn’t work well in all types of connections. You can fine tune some of these internal settings to speed up Firefox 4 to the maximum possible value.
PC Tune-up applications like System mechanic, Tune-Up utilities, Ashampoo WinOptimizer and Uniblue have automatic internet optimization modules. So if you are using any of them, select the option speed up internet and choose the connection speed from the menu list- and proceed to the automatic optimization. Browser specific optimization settings would be available in the advanced mode. Another option is to use several side compression software like OnSpeed. If you don’t have any of these applications, then use this manual method to speed up Firefox 4.
Type about:config on the Firefox 4 URL bar, and in the next page click I’ll we be careful, I promise.
Now search for network.http.pipelining using the filter tab at the top. Double-click one the corresponding row and set this feature to be true. When enabled, the HTTP pipelining feature will force Firefox to send simultaneous requests to a server for loading a page. This method can be used load web pages faster on high speed internet connection. However, not all servers support HTTP pipelining, and it would lead to broken web pages in certain cases. The network.http.pipelining.maxrequests option sets the number of simultaneous request to a server when HTTP pipelining is enabled. Similarly, network.http.proxy.pipelining setting activates for HTTP pipelining to a proxy server.
Another setting that could be used to speed up Firefox 4 is network.http.max-connections. The default value of network.http.max-connections in Firefox 4 is 30. This setting is unsuitable for dial-up connections as it would lead to network timeouts. For dial-up, the value of network.http.max-connections should be set below 10. High speed broadband users can raise the number to 35-40 for improving speed.
Firefox 4 is a lightweight browser with clean looks and feel of Google Chrome. Therefore, periodic clearing of cache and error logs (Ctrl + Shift + J) is the only requirement to speed up Firefox 4. However, changing the above options might do well in loading certain web pages and for people with high speed connections.
