Dish TV, the number one DTH provider in India announced Dish TruHD service. The Dish TruHD is a high definition (HD) DTH service similar to SUN HD, Reliance BIG TV HD DVR and Airtel Digital TV HD. The special STB provided with the Dish TruHD can deliver up-to 5 time sharper video and brilliant surround sound when used with compatible hardware. Dish TrueHD had already aired FIFA World cup 2010 and Wimbledon matches in HD quality through ESPN and Star Sports HD. The number of channels in Dish TruHD network is more than that in Airtel Digital TV HD. Their service include Zee TV, Zee Cinema HD, Discovery HD and National Geographic HD.

Dish TruHD service started at the end of May 2010 with comparatively high cost of ownership. Now it has become economic and competitive with the launch of Airtel Digital TV HD and other HD DTH services. Still SUN HD tops the positions-when it comes to the number of channels. However, SUN HD is costly and use a kind of upscaling technology for some of the channels. The upscaling process mathematically output 1080p resolutions and it matches with 16:9 aspect ration of the HDTV, which is not the original HD broadcast, in reality. When it comes to Airtel, they offer only one HD channel and that too at very high rates. So in comparison the best option is to get a Dish TruHD STB.

The stereo sound quality seems good, but not up-to the mark.

Airtel Digital tv is engaging in massive fraud. I smsed BUY to 54325 to get details of the connection. One executive called and after discussion paid Rs 999 for the connection. She gave me a transaction ID and said customer ID will be smsed in a couple hours. I never received it nor any serial code or activation code. Connection has not been given and it is now close to 2 weeks. Their customer service is so bad…they say they will take complaint but put you on hold and cut the call. Complaints are closed without taking action. When I call they ask for customer ID and I tell them I never received it. After 15 such calls I have thoroughly given up. They have absolutely no record of me paying the money but my credit card has been charged for the amount and I have transaction ID that they gave. I submit my complaint at consumer court i.e. and then mails to digitaltv@airtel.in are never replied even I have contacted to the Nodal officer. This is a complete nightmare and I never expected this from Airtel. All in all they have cheated me of Rs 999 and they are not going to give connection. This is the most pathetic customer service experience I have had in my life. My sincere advise to anyone reading this, please please dont go for Airtel Digital tv.
